Your Guide To Flawless Skin

By

The Issue

Achieving flawless skin may seem like a milestone for most, but with the correct information and applying the appropriate technique, spotless skin can be acquired and maintained. In no time you'll become the envy of all your peers, friends and family.

As most of you probably already know, acne is a common problem for most teenagers, and is a problem that usually creeps into adulthood as well. Adolescence is the most frequent time for spots to appear, and can be very distressing for youngsters that have just recently been spot free as kids. Furthermore, adults can experience spots, mostly due to poor diet, hormones, or stress. Struggling with skincare after adolescence can be an issue in itself, which unfortunately, some adults never manage to deal with.

However, there are solutions to this common plight, with most being quite simple and obvious. A frequent reason for failure, is not learning how to apply these easy techniques, and being impatient with the whole process. Yet apply these simple changes to the way you approach your skin and your health, and you should be reaping the benefits of a more health concious lifestyle and as a result enjoying better skin!

Unhealthy food contributes to unsightly acne, and should be avoided.
Unhealthy food contributes to unsightly acne, and should be avoided.

The Culprits

Poor Diet -

The most prominent cause for bad skin is a bad diet. Not doing the work internally means never seeing any positive results on the outside. Lowering the intake of fizzy drinks, fried foods, and things like red fatty meat can improve the quality of one's skin, and also one's health. Foods that are high in fat are most likely to contribute to spots, as the accumulation of fat in these foods inside you, may translate into spots on your face, due to the access oil.

Hygiene -

Wash your face as often as possible. Some people prefer washing their face once a day, however, twice a day should be the bare minimum (take into account the sensitivity of your skin, and wash according to your needs, to prevent further issues like drying etc). The reason why it is imperative that you wash your face regularly is that bacteria is one of the main contributors towards spots. If you think about the fact that we are out all day usually, and are subjected to germs and toxins in the air, forgetting to wash your face regularly can be be extremely detrimental to the health of our skin. Also, be mindful of how often you use things such as pillowcases, remembering to change them often (such as every few days) as the build up of oil and dirt can really clog pores. Be careful with how you wear your hair (as in keeping it out of your face as often as you can) and the types of hair products you might use, as these things can also clog pores. Also make sure to clean spectacles often if you use them, as spots can also break out in these areas.

Lack of water -

Some people are cynical about the idea of drinking water to solve their bad skin woes. This is understandable, as this does not work for everyone, unfairly. However, I believe that if it doesn't completely cure your issues, it will certainly make a contribution to it's improvement. A common reason that people get spots is because of toxins which are pent up within the body. Drinking water will have a detoxifying effect, helping to further prevent bad skin. Drinking water will also aid in moistening the skin, which will further help as spots are formed from dry, dead skin cells.

Lack of exercise -

Exercise will definitely instil improvement when tackling problem skin. Exercising has a detoxifying effect also, as sweating is a useful, and safe way to rid toxins. It will also have other secondary effects such as providing high energy levels and and physical strength.

Stress -

Even though it is easier said then done, try not to stress out too much. This can be hard in a world of responsibilities and hardship, however, stress is a prominent reason for spots, due to changes in hormone levels. Try to dedicate some important time to yourself - a light activity such as yoga may remedy this cause of problem skin, and will also be good exercise wise.

Period -

For women, breakouts during periods can be difficult to avoid, and the only thing that can be done is to endure it. However, if you are prone to breaking out during that time of the month, monitoring any products or techniques used to assist with the monthly breakout would be helpful, as it will be of great help the next time round you have problems.

Product build up -

Using too many products can be harmful when trying to maintain healthy skin. Lots of unnatural products and mixing different brands, will only upset and irritate the skin, maybe even damaging it. If you are going to use different products, make sure that they are natural (or as natural as you can get it), and test them to see how you react to them, either alone, or combined, ensuring compatibility.

Smoking -

Smoking can definitely destroy your skin, and add to premature ageing, because of the ingredients in cigarettes, such as carbon monoxide, and arsenic. Not only will this cause wrinkles, but it is a deadly habit, which fortunately can be kicked. We can't avoid the effects of getting older, but we can avoid accelerating the ageing process from a young age. It would be a shame to destroy potentially beautiful young skin with a bad habit that can be successfully overcome.

So there you have it. A quick run down on the most common causes of problem skin. With consistent application, and patience, using these methods will have you on your way to having the crystal clear skin you've always wanted.
